Men's Shropshire Shield 2007 |
15 Sept 2007, at Oswestry. Results and brief report
|
| In the annual Shropshire Shield round robin for the smaller
mens clubs in the county, holders Ludlow were again favourites over Market
Drayton and Oswestry and so it proved.
In the first of the three games Oswestry were unable to take any advantage from playing on their home pitch as they were beaten quite comprehensively by Ludlow, 4-0. It wasn't all one way traffic though and Oswestry pressed for a consolation right to the end. The Ludlow goals came from Matt Hall, captain Stuart Richards, Nick Earl and Paul Chubb. The second game saw Oswestry on again this time against Market Drayton. This was a more even game and Oswestry took the lead through Dave Smith. But Drayton came straight back and within minutes were level through Richard Jones. The game looked to be coming to a close at 1-1 but Richard Rawsthorne gave Drayton the win seconds from the end after a swift breakaway. The final game saw Ludlow open up a 4-0 lead over Drayton through Nick Brooks, Jo Richards, Kevin Williams and Paul Chubb. But Drayton persisted and scored a consolation through Richard Rawsthorne. So Ludlow retained the Shropshire Shield title, from Market Drayton and then Oswestry. The picture shows Ludlow captain Stuart Richards receiving the trophy from Jenny Redford, umpire on the day and the Shropshire County Umpires Secretary. |
