Development
Within Shropshire hockey development is coordinated by the Shropshire Hockey Development Group. This group, which runs as a committee of the SHA, was set up in 2001 to work on the local authority led Active Sports initiative. This scheme ended in 2007 and the focus of the groups activities is now England Hockey's implementation of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles, the Single System for Hockey.

bullet - An England Hockey initiative based on the Sport England Clubmark standard. It is aimed at improving the overall quality of clubs by  guiding them through an accreditation process. Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ludlow have all completed this and other clubs in the county are working towards it.

bulletActive Sports - The SHDG was set up in 2001 to work with the Shropshire Sports Partnership on the implementation of Active Sports initiatives. The Active Sports initiative has now ended but here is a picture of the structure of youth hockey in the county as it was in 2003.
