Chairman's Welcome 2007

I am honoured and delighted to have been asked to take on the role of Chairman of Shropshire Hockey.  Having been associated with the county since 1979 I feel very much an adopted Salopian , although nothing will stop me supporting Coventry City FC, where I was born.  Sad I know!

I must pay tribute to Roger and Myra for their achievements over the last few years and offer the thanks of the whole of Shropshire Hockey for their commitment and dedication.

I have worked very closely with Roger for many years and I am amazed at the energy and dedication that he has brought to the Chairman’s role.  The best tribute I can pay is that in all that time he has only ever had one main aim; to make Shropshire Hockey successful and respected in the hockey world.  As a friend, a Shropshire County member and an England Hockey employee I can honestly say that he has succeeded extremely well.

Myra has performed her duties quietly and efficiently and has the tag of ‘break her in half and it will say Shropshire Hockey all through’.  Being the secretary of any organisation is never easy and we have been fortunate to have had Myra in that position.

As for the future it is tremendous that Telford and Wrekin have achieved National League status and I wish them well, as I do to all the county’s sides whether 1st or 7th X1.

The implementation of the Single System is an exciting opportunity for the hockey family to develop our youngsters in the best possible way and build on the excellent work of our Schools’ and Youth Committees.  It is essential that we all support this work within Shropshire .

I know that I will lead the county in a completely different way to Roger but hope that it proves to be successful for us all; both on and off the field. Please get in touch if you have any views about Shropshire Hockey or England Hockey, I will be delighted to talk to you.

My best wishes to all.
